Olivia R. Callan β17 chose Shenandoah because she wanted to play basketball and be a part of a community. One of Callanβs fondest memories of the university was just being in college, but she also enjoyed playing and winning basketball games and making life-long friends.
Callan is still active in the Shenandoah community as a member of the ΛΔ»’Σ°ΚΣ Black Alumni Network, a newly formed alumni group that came together in 2020. βWe are working together to make positive changes,β said Callan.
Callan is a health fitness specialist at Corporate Fitness Works in Fairfax, Virginia. In this position, she serves the Department of Justice and is responsible for managing memberships, instructing group exercise classes, facility operations and developing fitness programs. The most rewarding part of Callanβs career is working with people to accomplish their fitness goals.
Callanβs Shenandoah education prepared her for this career field by giving her the knowledge of exercise science, hands-on experience from her internships and the skill of time management.
Callanβs advice to students is: βEnjoy your time at school because it does fly by, but take anything you are doing seriously. If you have a hobby, are a part of a team or a club, etc., take it seriously and really get the full experience because you never know where it will take you in life.β
