Complete the Master of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) application. This program is fully online, with options for both part-time and full-time enrollment.

Admissions Requirements

• Graduate application for admission.
• Transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended.
• Completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA
• For those currently enrolled in another SU program: One letter of reference
• For new students and external candidates: Two letters of reference 
  • One from a current supervisor or academic advisor.
  • The other from a professor, mentor, or person familiar with the applicant’s academic and/or professional ability. A faculty letter of recommendation is strongly encouraged.
• Resume/C.V.
• Personal statement that describes the applicant’s education, experience, and professional career objectives (1500 word maximum).

  • One from a current supervisor or academic advisor.
  • The other from a professor, mentor, or person familiar with the applicant’s academic and/or professional ability. A faculty letter of recommendation is strongly encouraged.
• Resume/C.V.
• Academic writing sample (2-10 pages) – this includes research papers, presentations, or any writing assignment that required references and used peer-reviewed literature. If the applicant does not have this type of sample to submit, please contact admissions for suitable substitutions.
• Personal statement that describes the applicant’s education, experience, and professional career objectives (1500 word maximum).
• The Graduate Record Examination* (GRE) is not required.
  • The GRE is now OPTIONAL, not required. If you believe the GRE provides evidence of your academic preparedness for the Master of Public Health program, you are encouraged to submit your GRE scores. Please reach out to SUGradAdmissions@su.edu with any questions about this change.
• Language Proficiency requirement must be met. TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English, or Duolingo English Test may be required.

Students interested in enrolling in the dual PharmD/Master of Public Health must be admitted and successfully complete one term in the PharmD program prior to submitting this dual degree application to the PharmD/MPH program.

Shenandoah operates on a rolling admissions process, which means that we start interviewing applicants as soon as we have a complete file. It may take up to 8 weeks for PharmCAS to forward your file to us. Therefore, the sooner you submit your application and required paperwork, the better your chances of being interviewed and/or accepted.

PharmD/MPH Application Requirements & Program Prerequisites

• Full-time student status in good academic and professional standing in the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy pursuing the PharmD degree with a grade point average of at least 3.0.
• Submission of an MPH application during P1 Spring term which includes the following:
  • Graduate Application for Admission for the MPH program.
  • One letter of reference : written by a Shenandoah Pharmacy faculty member.
  • Personal statement that describes the applicant’s education, experience, and professional career objectives (1500 word maximum).
  • Curriculum vitae
• Potential interview with the MPH Admissions Committee.
• Admitted students enroll in PH 501 in first semester.

Chose your pathway

ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ’s School of Pharmacy offers two pathways, on campus in Winchester, VA, and online hybrid, allowing you to learn in a manner that best meets your needs. We encourage you to interview for the pathway in which you are most interested. Both pathways maintain the same high standards allowing all students to achieve exceptional educational outcomes with added flexibility in how they interact with the curriculum, faculty, and peers. Once accepted, students confirm their seats for the pathway of choice at the time of deposit.

Complete Application Files Only

The Admissions Committee will only consider complete files. It is the responsibility of the applicant to keep in touch with your Admissions Counselor to ensure all information has been received.

Most communication with applicants is done via email when possible, so please be alert for emails regarding your application. Notification generally occurs within a few weeks after you have submitted your materials.

Invitation To Interview

Our admissions coordinators contact applicants directly to schedule their interviews. Most are conducted on weekdays within two weeks of the applicants selection for interview. The interview process will include a written essay requirement and a 30 minute interview with a faculty member and a current student. Applicants will also receive a tour of the facilities and may attend a portion of a class if desired.

Admissions Status

We try to inform applicants of their admissions status within 2 -3 weeks after their interview. If you are accepted, you will receive an acceptance email followed by an official acceptance package with a deadline to submit your non-refundable tuition deposit to secure your position in the class.

Once You Are Accepted

A non-refundable tuition deposit of $1,000 is due within 15 days of the receipt of the acceptance package. The deposit reserves your seat in the class on your chosen location so it is important to submit your deposit promptly. Once you are accepted, official, up-to-date transcripts from all colleges you have attended must be mailed to ËÄ»¢Ó°ÊÓ Attention: Office of Graduate Admissions 1460 University Drive, Winchester, VA 22601 PharmCAS cannot forward transcripts to a school of pharmacy to fulfill this requirement. When accepted, students may not begin classes until all outstanding prerequisite classes have been completed with a grade of “C” or better. You will receive an email from Certiphi requesting information for a criminal background check. (Please also check your email ‘spam’ folder.) If within 2 weeks of acceptance you have not received this email from Certiphi, please contact Katie Sanders at ksanders@su.edu. The fee for the background check is included in your PharmCAS fee. Criminal background checks are required for all students. No student will be allowed to matriculate without a clean (no felony convictions) current background check.

When Applications Are Denied Admission

When applicants do not meet SU’s criteria for admissions, they will be denied. A formal letter of explanation will be mailed to the applicant within 2 – 3 weeks. If more clarification is needed, applicants may contact Katie Sanders at ksanders@su.edu.

  • One letter of reference : Written by a Shenandoah PA faculty member.
  • Personal statement that describes the applicant’s education experience, and professional career objectives (1500 word maximum).
  • Resume/C.V.
• Potential interview with the MPH Admissions Committee.
• Current PA students apply in Spring Semester of year 1 and need to be in good academic standing.
• Admitted students enroll for PH 501 in their first summer term.
