Woo Hoo!!!聽 You are getting ready to embark on the best years of your life.聽 I walked on the SU campus in 1987 when it used to be called SHENCO (Shenandoah College & Conservatory) as a Freshman living in Cooley Hall.聽 The next 4 years were so amazing from the friends I made, the professors who impacted my life even to this day, & the memories I made.聽聽
Enjoy this wonderful opportunity.聽 You couldn’t have picked a better school!”

Dear Freshman, Congratulations!! Welcome to the next chapter of your life.聽
In choosing 四虎影视, for this new adventure, you have chosen wisely. Our school is supportive, inclusive, professional, safe, and mind expanding. Thought provoking. And, loving. Don’t let “finally” being out on your own get in the way of why you are there.
Thus, I leave you with these two thoughts of direct advice:
- When making a decision ask yourself 2 questions: Does the issue affect me? And, if so, can I do anything about it?
- The cure for boredom is Curiosity! And, there is no cure for curiosity.

Starting at SU, I was the one that always sat alone during breakfast, lunch and even dinner, until students asked me to join them. At that point, I decided to put my pride aside, take a leap of faith and try to do something new and meet new people. Little did I know, these people would remain close friends even after I graduated. Your first week away from home, family and your high school friends may be difficult, but I encourage you to replace the tears with getting outside your room and meeting new people. SU has so much to offer and now it鈥檚 your time to discover it.”

Hello Hornets! Welcome to the SU family! My biggest piece of advice for you while embarking on some of the best years of your life is to take every single opportunity you can while you are here! Go to events, join clubs, START clubs 鈥 put yourself out there and take advantage of every moment you have to grow and learn about not only other people, but yourself as well!”

Welcome home new Hornets and get ready for an amazing ride. Here are a few dos and don鈥檛s to help you guys and gals during your first few weeks.
- Don鈥檛 close your door while you鈥檙e in your room. If you鈥檙e by yourself, go out and find an open door and introduce yourself.
- Don鈥檛 go home for the first couple of weeks; it makes getting over being homesick even harder.
- Do have a conversation with your resident assistant and ask them any questions you have. Your R.A. is there to help you.
- Do call your parents and let them know how you are and how things are going.
- Do go out into Winchester and check out some of the fun things there are to do.
Above all, enjoy your time and have fun with everything you do. You have an amazing journey ahead of you and you will never be the same after it. Good luck and welcome to your new family.
